Frances Schagen
Frances is a serial entrepreneur who owned Crystal Clear Bookkeeping Ltd for 15 years. She worked with 100s of business owners in all industries and partnered with business support organizations to design and deliver programing to 1000s more.
Frances studied her business owners to find out what made some wildly successful and some struggle. She found that the ones that were successful did things differently, so she took that last 7 years to research them to learn what that means.
She wrote the book, Your Effortless Business talking about the 4 cornerstones of business: Predictability with systems; Environment supporting your outcomes; Team, because we can’t do it alone; Well paid so you have capacity to do a great job for everyone. The 4 keys to success are : communication, sell what people want to buy, belong to a group and take time to think.
From that, she designed the Small Business Operating System. Successful business owners focus on the 3 people in their business: you, the owner, your team and your customers. Each takes a journey through your business starting with attraction, through and engagement to delight. You have 3 levers to make these work: design the experience you want others to have, build the environment that will deliver on your promise and enact a value exchange that works for everyone.
When applying these concepts to startups she discovered the 6 Stages to Starting Your Effortless Business. The startup phase can be overwhelming but that’s because people are trying to do too much at once and in the wrong order. The 6 stages are: Owners Journey – know what you need; Discovery Dance -interact with your customers early to find them and get clarity around exactly what they want; Official Start – do this once you have your first customers; Customer Journey – craft with care; Team Journey – time to build the best team; and finally make it all work with the Essential 11 Algorithms – the 11 sets of instructions that will make your business effortless.
Frances found that business owners were struggling because they were missing three important things

- Accurate timely numbers for feedback
